The Pegasus Wing

Many older Pegasus players will know Kevin Kenny well. Kevin achieved fame (greatness?) by being the manager who took Pegasus, then a failing LSL club, from the footballing backwater to become League Champions in 1975/1976. Next year we qualified for the FAI cup for the first time, beating Home Farm after a replay before losing to a last minute goal to eventual Cup winners Dundalk. Kevin repeated the League success two years later, and when he stood down Pegasus was the premier LSL club.

Kevin's left Ireland with his family and settled in Edinburgh. He is now involved, along with his wife Celia, in the Lamont Centre for the disabled in Cluj, northern Romania.

In recent years, Pegasus has sent funding to the Centre, leading to a room in the Center being named "The Pegasus Room". A number of Pegasus players of that era have considered how we as a club could make a greater contribution to the Centre. The hope is that we can develop the link and turn the "Pegasus Room" into the "Pegasus Wing".

Next Wednesday, 14 February, 2 former players, Nicky Skelly and Barry O'Callaghan (+ Orla, of course) will travel to Cluj to meet up with Kevin and Celia and take part in an International Conference on developing facilities and access for disabled people in a post-communist society.

They will shoot a video when there and will on their return will organize an evening where Pegasus members, past and present, and friends will be invited to view the work at the Centre and discuss ways how we, who have generally done well in life, can help those who have been less fortunate.

If you would like to become involved in a working group you can contact Nicky (nickskelly@eircom.net), Barry (boc@scd.ie) or David FitzGerald (mailto:dfitz@microsoft.com).
